The Projector

Mobile App Design & Development

A mobile app for the Red River College Polytechnic student newspaper The Projector. Built using React Native, The Projector mobile app reads JSON data from The Projector WordPress site to generate a news feed, category pages, and articles.

This app was built with fellow DMD Interaction Design & Development student Camille Pacamalan and was selected by The Projector staff to be the official app for the newspaper.

The mobile app consists of a home screen, featuring a news-feed of the most recent articles in chronological order and four category types to browse articles by (Arts & Culture, Latest News, Health & Lifestyle, and Opinion). Each category is colour coded and matches the colour categories established on the Projector website.

The app also features two page types for articles, one for text-based articles and one for video. All articles are automatically generated by pulling in data from the Projector website and an image is automatically inserted into the article that is either pulled form the article’s featured image or an in-line image.

Lastly, the app has an information modal that can be accessed from the home screen or category pages that contains an about statement from The Projector, staff & contact information, and social media links.
